The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) is a worldwide Christian community. It was founded in Paris, France by a 20-year old student at the Sorbonne, Antoine Frederic Ozanam, with six friends, on April 23, 1833. The "Conference of Charity," as it was originally known, was formed in response to taunts from fellow students: "What is Christianity doing to help the poor and suffering?" The group took as their model and patron the great French saint and champion of the poor, Vincent de Paul. It later became known as the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and spread rapidly throughout Paris, and then France.
The Notre Dame St. Vincent de Paul Society was originally organized in Kerrville on May 5th 1953 with eight charter members.
Today, in solidarity with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul - Southwest Texas Council, we operate a thrift store located at 1145 Broadway in Kerrville, Texas. We also operate a food pantry and a financial aid office at this same location. Unpaid volunteers manage and staff all of these operations. We have no paid employees.
Donated goods are sold in the thrift store and proceeds from the store – along with second collections from Notre Dame Church and other contributions – fund our pantry and assistance activities.
We distribute food obtained from the San Antonio Food Bank or received as in-kind donations from generous organizations such as HEB or Walmart to families in need at our food pantry and periodically throughout the year.
The financial aid office helps people pay bills for utilities (primarily electricity, natural gas, propane and water), gasoline, transportation and other purposes.
As opportunities arise, we also conduct a limited number of home visits every year.
During the fiscal year ended September 2023, we were honored to serve over 1,800 families with 350,000 pounds of food and $350,000 of financial aid. -

DONATION DROP-OFF
Donations for the Thrift Store are accepted on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 11a.m.-1p.m. at the warehouse roll-up door in the back of the parking lot. -
INCLEMENT WEATHER
OUR INCLEMENT WEATHER PLAN IS GENERALLY TO FOLLOW THE LEAD OF THE KERRVILLE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT WHENEVER POSSIBLE. IF THE SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED, WE'LL CLOSE OUR STORE AS WELL.

At the Midyear Meeting on April 14, 2018, the National Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in the United States approved the following mission statement:
A network of friends, inspired by Gospel values, growing in holiness and building a more just world through personal relationships with and service to people in need.
